Domaine Kox - 2019 - AOP L-06001
Description
Corinne speaks about her Pinot Noir Barrique 2019 with visible pride. For her it belongs to those wines that already show their full personality in youth while hinting at much development ahead. "It is actually still young" she says and this youth gives it lively tension. Although harmonious today it has inner depth that will grant more elegance in coming years. Its current coherence she attributes to impressive base structure. The Pinot Noir comes from two typical parcels in the commune not spectacular single vineyard but honest characterful terroir showing how Pinot Noir grows here. As Corinne explains the wine fermented first in steel tank then stayed two to three weeks on skins before aging. 2019 was special for her first time testing Luxembourg oak. To discern wood influence precisely she put same wine in different barriques. Luxembourg oak she says grows slower has smaller pores allowing less oxygen to wine. Thus wood noticeable first year but finds fine balance over time. The 2019 shows exactly that a Pinot with "shoulders" full structure powerful but not heavy. A wine with density without being loud. Barrique aging gave delicate smoky note and tight almost silky texture. Classic Pinot Noir aromatics remain present clear red fruit fine spice elegant line. Corinne stresses Luxembourg red wines often underestimated. No talk of "green" or "unripe" here. This Pinot young yes but precise harmonious proud of origin. Culinary versatility great accompanies structured deep dishes without overpowering. Corinne says not just "Fischelchen" light fish but heartily with dark meat braises hearty winter dishes. Solo before meal excels winter bringing structure warmth presence. Ultimately Pinot Noir Barrique 2019 clearly shows Corinne's handwriting careful precise full character inner energy. Impressive example of elegance depth Luxembourg Pinot Noir terroir can produce and Corinne's mastery.
