Description

The Gewürztraminer 2023 “Wormer Waibuer” comes from a site that has long enjoyed a special reputation on the Luxembourg Moselle. Waibuer lies between Ohn and Wormeldange and was often described by older winemakers as a kind of “safe bet,” a place where the vines ripen reliably and good quality can be expected year after year. Such sites are rare because they usually offer a very balanced combination of exposure, warmth, and soil: enough ripeness for the grapes to develop their full aroma, yet stable enough so that the wine does not lose balance quickly. That fits perfectly with the style of this wine. Gewürztraminer is known for its intense aromatic character; many associate it directly with lychee, ripe fruits, floral notes, and spices. Here you get that typical Traminer signature, but in a clear, non-sweet version. It’s important to understand that “fruity” does not automatically mean “sweet.” A wine can seem very aromatic and fruit-driven even if it’s vinified dry, because our sense of smell interprets fruit aromas as “sweetness,” even when there is little residual sugar on the palate. This keeps the wine lively and less heavy, even though it smells intensely. Culinary-wise, it pairs especially well with dessert cheese. Cheeses with creamy texture and intense spice need something in the glass that can stand up aromatically. A neutral white wine often fades quickly, whereas Gewürztraminer remains present, complements the cheese instead of overwhelming it. Precisely because this Traminer is not sweet, the combination feels clearer and less “dessert-like,” more like an aromatic finale that still feels fresh.

Sommelier Review

This wine opens with a captivating bouquet of honeydew melon lychee orange blossom rose petal and a hint of ginger that immediately evokes an exotic garden in bloom. On the palate it is medium bodied and silky with the generous fruit framed by gentle floral sweetness and a discreet spicy lift which keeps the style elegant rather than heavy. The finish is clean and moderately long leaving traces of citrus blossom and ginger that make the wine an inspired partner for aromatic Asian cuisine refined poultry dishes.

About Gewürztraminer - Wormer Waibuer
