Description

The Gewürztraminer Ahn Goellebour comes from the vineyard of the same name above the winegrowing village of Ahn and is part of the estate’s “Douceur” line — a selection of particularly aromatic wines with a rounded texture and a finely balanced, subtly sweet finish. The Gewürztraminer grape variety finds ideal conditions here to combine its intense aromatics with structure and precision. Domaine Schmit-Fohl can look back on seven generations of winemaking in Ahn and today combines traditional craftsmanship with a modern, terroir-driven philosophy. Since 2021, Nicolas and Mathieu Schmit-Fohl have been managing the estate, relying increasingly on gentle practices in both the vineyard and the cellar. Since the 2020 vintage, the winery has been in conversion to organic cultivation, with the goal of sustainably preserving the soils, vines, and origin. The vineyards around Ahn are characterized by shell limestone soils, typical of this section of the Luxembourg Moselle. This calcareous subsoil lends the Gewürztraminer clarity, tension, and remarkable precision, allowing its natural abundance of aromas to remain elegantly integrated. The Goellebour site is known for particularly structured and linear wines. In the glass, the wine reveals an expressive yet precise bouquet: floral notes, exotic fruits, and fine spicy nuances define its aroma. On the palate, it impresses with an upright structure that brings freshness and balance, harmoniously integrating the delicate residual sweetness. The wine feels rounded, clear, and persistent, without ever being heavy. A characterful Gewürztraminer with a clear sense of origin and gentle sweetness — ideal with aromatic cuisine, Asian dishes, or strong cheeses, but equally exciting on its own

Sommelier Review

This Gewürztraminer from Ahn Göllebour shines in a pale golden hue and immediately seduces with a heady bouquet of peach pineapple cranberry and rose petals. On the palate it is off dry and medium bodied with a silky texture where the generous sweetness is finely balanced by a gentle acidity and a touch of spice giving the wine both comfort and lift. The finish is short yet very expressive leaving a trail of exotic fruit and floral perfume that makes it a charming partner for spicy Asian cuisine aromatic poultry dishes and indulgent desserts.
