Fru by Georges Schiltz - Fairytale
Fru by Georges Schiltz - Vin de Luxembourg
Description
Fairytale by Fru from Georges Schiltz is a wine with a clear attitude. It shows that local value creation, artisanal small-scale production, and ecological thinking can thrive right here in our country, and that products with social awareness do not have to come from faraway places. Inspired by the 30th anniversary of Fairtrade Luxembourg, this wine elegantly brings these values to the glass. The wordplay Fairtrade × Fairytale playfully captures its essence: a small, authentic story of fair enjoyment. The grapes grow along the river Sauer in Rosport, far from the large Moselle slopes that define Luxembourg’s wine culture. This is not meant as a deliberate contrast but because this is simply where the winemaker lives, and the site holds its own unique potential. The soils there are intact, retain water reliably, and allow healthy vines even in extreme years. The wine’s personality is formed outdoors—through soil structure, sunlight, wind, microclimate, and the surrounding nature, whose animals enliven this diverse environment. Everything interacts—a living ecosystem that leaves its mark in the glass. Fairytale is a blend of Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Pinot Gris. Pinot Blanc brings slender elegance, while the other two contribute fine, fruity roundness. The vines are young, and the style is fresh and approachable. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with natural yeasts from the grapes and the cellar, avoiding industrial yeast cultures. This allows the wine’s origin to shine more clearly. The winemaker also completely avoids chaptalization. The extremely low yields, about one third of Luxembourg’s average, combined with a later harvest, produce greater ripeness, softer acidity, and naturally rich aromas. The result is a wine that does not need to be loud to impress. Fairytale is a wine made for sharing—light, playful, friendly to every palate, yet full of character. It’s ideal as an aperitif but also versatile with food. The winemaker enthusiastically recommends it with Kniddelen in mushroom cream sauce or any mushroom-based dish, reflecting his local connection: Luxembourg now has excellent mushroom producers whose quality products pair perfectly with this wine. It also complements delicate white meats beautifully. It doesn’t push to the forefront but gives space to the food and the moment—a wine that extends evenings and fuels conversation. That blends are still less common in Luxembourg than in regions such as Champagne or Bordeaux makes Fairytale all the more exciting within the estate’s lineup. Georges Schiltz enjoys combining grape varieties with intention, and alongside this wine he produces many more cuvées, each with its own distinct signature. Through this blend of tradition, experimentation, and modern vineyard philosophy arises a style that is elegant, mineral-driven, and refreshingly unpretentious—a wine that requires little effort but makes every moment a little lovelier.
