Esprit de Schengen
Domaine Henri Ruppert - AOP L-03668
Description
The Crémant Esprit de Schengen Extra Brut comes from the Coteaux de Schengen site one of the most distinctive vineyards in the southern part of the Luxembourg Mosel. The vineyards are characterized by calcareous mineral rich soils that give the base wines a clear structure and fine precise acidity. These qualities form the basis for a Crémant that shows both freshness and depth. The base wine of the 2023 vintage was carefully vinified and then aged for over 18 months on the lees. This long bottle maturation ensures the typically fine even perlage that distinguishes Esprit de Schengen. It gives the Crémant additional creaminess stability and subtle fullness without losing natural freshness. On the nose the Crémant presents fruit forward and clear with aromas of apple pear and light stone fruits in the foreground. These impressions are complemented by light wood notes from a small portion of barrel aged base wines. These add fine spice and more complexity without making it heavy. On the palate Esprit de Schengen is precise dry and well structured. As Extra Brut with a dosage of only 3 g/L it is kept particularly slim a style that emphasizes its minerality and clarity. The cuvée consists of 40% Pinot Blanc 25% Pinot Noir 21% Pinot Gris and 14% Auxerrois. This combination provides freshness fine fruit elegance and length simultaneously. The Crémant is excellent as an aperitif but also harmonizes with light cuisine fish dishes or festive occasions. It exemplifies how clean precise and yet accessible Luxembourg Crémant culture can be.
Sommelier Review
A sleek Extra Brut Crémant from chalky Coteaux de Schengen, with fine lees-aged mousse and bright fruit purity. Mineral structure and precise acidity shine in a balanced blend of Pinot varieties. Elegant, fresh and versatile for aperitifs or fine dining.
